Kicking off the New Year in style, AR4T Gallery in Laguna presents its group photography show documenting over 20 years of skate culture. Featuring Monsters of Skate legends Grant Brittain, Dave Swift, Miki Vuckovich, James Cassimus, Atiba Jefferson and Jon Humphries, “Still Life with Wood” reflects the personal journeys of these skating greats both inside and outside of their craft. From fashion to function, the exhibit examines this closely knit group of professionals and offers an arsenal of stories from what Lee Crane of Boardistan calls “some of the best men to ever point highly polished glass at a rolling slab of maple.” In addition, the gallery presents the funky wood cut artwork of Jay Croft and music from the sometimes Lucha libre mask wearing “rider in black” who plays for “citizenship and beer,” spins tales of “lost love and bullfighting,” and specializes in “piñata bashing”—the mighty El Mysterioso. It’s obvious all of the coolest bases are covered on this event, so roll on over and get your crooked grind on.
