Out of Frequency
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour
Small Giants
There is only one thing more stark and unforgiving than a wintery Scandinavian landscape, and that is the unrelenting optimism in Scandinavian pop music. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is a genre-blending group whose success began with the late Amy Winehouse hearing its demo and continued with a series of TV gigs (the group
s music was used in commercials for both Apple and Heineken). With the band’s new album Out of Frequency, the Danish group makes an album that feels like it was fun to write, record and perform. First single “Major” has blaring horns over a reggaeton rhythm section with cheesy yet fun laser sounds; and of course frontwoman Mette Lindberg’s distinct vocals which sound like Nancy Sinatra after inhaling a party balloon. The production is tighter and their songwriting is more deliberate, as evidenced by song “Ghost in My Head.” The band has not stopped writing songs like “Heart Attack,” a track that refuses to leave your eardrums but the group’s also explored its musical influences and started to strike out in its own direction.
