Top Cannabis Strains of 2017

on

It’s been a wild year, from political upheaval and natural disasters to exciting signs of unity and progress in areas like cannabis rights and reform. And through it all, one thing has remained consistent—the legal cannabis industry is expanding by leaps and bounds. New strains are being developed all the time, while old ones are being strengthened, re-developed and improved on. Think you know which strains are the top contenders for 2017? Here are some of the hottest cannabis strains that have remained popular over the past year.

Gorilla Glue #4

An old staple and tried-and-true favorite, Gorilla Glue #4 has been trending across the nation as one of the hottest strains to pick up. Kyle Delmuro of NisonCo PR & Consulting, a group that has been tracking trends in cannabis use, explains that it’s always been a major favorite, and now that cannabis is legal, it is a major go-to for consumers.

Tangie

This is a sativa that, according to Delmuro, made a major mark this year. It could be because of the clean and uplifting effects, or just because it is fun to say, but for whatever reason, Tangie seems to be flying off the shelves. NisonCo reports it as one of the most popular strains this year.

Blue Dream

By far one of the favorite strains year after year, Blue Dream is great for anxiety and keeping active. Although it’s a sativa, it has a very relaxed, almost indica-like quality that appeals to those who don’t normally stray away from the more mellow indica strains. Cannacopia, a site that allows users to rate and search for strains, reports that this was one of the most searched strains of 2017.

AK-47

This tasty, relaxing hybrid is also one of the most-searched-for strains, according to Cannacopia. The name may be intense and violent, but the effects of the strain are the exact opposite, and will have you relaxed in no time.

Girl Scout Cookies

This one should come as no surprise to the seasoned smoker, and in fact, all of the strains with the name “cookies” got some major love during the past year. “These strains are the typical high THC strains that regulars have come to love because of taste, quality of effect, and the name comes with sense of familiarity and comfort in what you are getting,” Delmuro explained.

White Widow

The super-intense hybrid strain has been known for years as a great solution to anxiety and stress, as Cannacopia noets. In fact, it won the High Times Cannabis Cup back in 1995 for it’s extra-strength power to  treat certain medical conditions, but just enough sativa to keep you from falling asleep.

Sour Diesel

While this hard-hitting strain is not for everyone, according to Cannacopia, it is still one of the most popular strains out there. Many seek out Sour Diesel as a strong and hearty sativa that is great for relaxation.

CBD Strains

While in the past THC has been the buzz, literally, CBD has recently stepped into the spotlight. “Avidekel, a high-CBD strain was only introduced to North America this year by Israel-based Tikun Olam, and already won its category at Lift’s Canadian Cannabis Awards,” Delmuro claimed.

Northern Lights

This indica is another strain that has been loved and revered for years, and now many are hitting up local dispensaries to get some of this great indica for relaxation. Cannacopia lists it as one of the most popular strains.

Skywalker OG

It could just be that Star Wars is huge right now, or it could be that this is one of the greatest strains of all time. This is another frequently-searched-for strain on the Cannacopia list.
