Where The Flying Burrito Brothers once found some middle ground between psychedelic rock and country music, The Berries search for similar steady footing in alternative rock and Americana. Led by Matthew Berry of 1990s alt rock revival acts Big Bite and Happy Diving, The Berries’ debut, Start All Over Again, finds the band exploring a sound somewhere between Neil Young’s more country rock leanings and the more subdued side of Nirvana. Though the album has an overall warm, easy sound to it, there is still a bit of grit and darkness that will please both alternative country and grunge enthusiasts alike. (Simon Weedn)
