A new initiative from Responsible Use Denver has been approved, and seeks to gain signatures. Their goal is to create comprehensive and safe guidelines for the city that don’t include things like limiting THC content, or outlawing certain products that would then be forced onto the black market and denied to patients.

According to their press release, the group has been reaching out to the community since January, and sought to create an initiative with clear and transparent language that would appeal to cannabis users as well as those who are slightly skeptical and seek to keep the city safe.

“We began contacting various city officials and Registered Neighborhood Organizations in the middle of January and we have been meeting with various groups ever since.” Jordan Person, campaign manager for the Responsible Use Denver campaign, stated via a press release through NORML in Denver.

“Their language has the ability to turn neighbor against neighbor and businesses approved by the city may turn against the RNOs,” included Person in relation to the amendments seeking to lower allowable THC levels and censor cannabis use. “Their language will create a confusing process that will benefit businesses like specialty law firms and do little to create the progress that our initiative will regarding creating a safe space for responsible adults 21 and up to consume their legally purchased marijuana products. We hope officials with the City of Denver continue to support our pragmatic approach to this ongoing issue in our city.”

It is clear that the cannabis community would rather have a clear set of guidelines for cannabis use that can actually benefit all, instead of strict new laws that will hurt businesses and force products into the black market. Responsible Use Denver is currently collecting signatures and trying to pass their new initiative.
