Similar to politically active bands such as U2 or Rise Against, Thievery Corporation is a DJ duo with a lot to say. Using lounge, dub and bossa nova to convey their music, Rob Garza and Eric Hilton combine elements of music with overt political statements against crises such as war and famine. Songs like “Amerimacka” and “Revolution Solution” illustrate a dislike for the policies of President George W. Bush. The duo has also advocated and supported the World Food Programme, the largest food aid organization in the world. Thievery Corporation (just the name is plastered with political statements) certainly brings something new and controversial to the downtempo and chillout scene. In addition, rising indie pop band Fitz & The Tantrums is bringing their soul-influenced, guitar-less beats with them for this L.A. show. (Andy Cheng)
