Ah, New Zealand . . . it’s not just a cool place to film The Lord of the Rings anymore. The island country also serves as home to The Black Seeds, a group that probably conjured up its name from the musical styles it worships and creates: dub, funk and afrobeat. The 8-man band led by Barnaby Weir and Mike Fabulous (former member Bret McKenzie is currently putting in time with comedy duo Flight of the Conchords) was described by Clash Magazine as “one of the best reggae bands on the planet.” Following the release of its album Solid Ground, the band has been touring extensively throughout the world, with relatively successful tours in Europe and the U.S. The group will be promoting its newest album Dust and Dirt, with a stop in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre. Peter Jackson, you would be so proud,
