Cannabis SortingHebrew University’s Agrinnovation investment fund recently announced their investment in the Cannabi-Tech Ltd., the developers of automated cannabis sorting and analysis tools for cannabis. Aggrinovation agricultural arm of the Yissum Research Development Company of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Cannabi-Tech’s unique device enables business owners to analyze cannabis and cannabis products using nondestructive detection. The technology uses near infa-red (NIR) spectrometry and imaging tools to quantify the prized compounds in cannabis.

Professor Oded Shoseyov is co-founder and chief scientific officer of Cannabi-Tech. According to Shoseyov, the only way to properly test the composition of cannabis is to test every individual flower independently. “The medical cannabis opportunity cannot materialize in full as long as doctors do not have 100% confidence that each time they prescribe medical cannabis, it comes in a controlled and standardized condition, with the precise composition of active ingredients matching their patient’s therapeutic needs,” Shoseyov told the Times of Israel.

Aggrinnovation was set up last year by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to fund agritech investment. Cannabi-Tech will use the funds to boost its R&C activities as well as its business developments.

The device gives an accurate “unique spectral fingerprint” for each cannabis plant. An optional label generator and automated packaging system can be  installed for mass production. The current method for testing cannabis involves testing an entire batch at a time. The old process involves the destruction of cannabis material, which can be eliminated using Cannabi-Tech’s devices.

Israel’s impact on the cannabis industry is unparalleled. The fields of cannabis research and technology are pioneering the way for other nations around the world. Israel’s innovative approach to rapidly changing cannabis laws enables the cannabis industry to move forward in ways that are not possible anywhere else in the world. The technology will aid companies in the future in areas of regulatory oversight, quality control and quality assurance.
