Mexican Government Provides Medical Cannabis

Mexico just went one step beyond allowing and approving medical cannabis. The government will actually be providing medical cannabis to some of its citizens.

On August 17, the first shipment of CBD hemp oil was provided to a clinic in order to treat 11 medical patients. These patients are being treated for serious medical conditions such as cancer and seizures, conditions which are not currently receptive to current treatments.

The cannabis is all being provided by HempMeds® Mexico, a company that has officially partnered with the government in order to give consistent and effective cannabis to patients. The product they make is called Real Scientific Hemp Oil-X, or RSHO-X for short.

“HempMeds® Mexico is Medical Marijuana Inc.’s distribution branch in the country, focusing on providing non-psychoactive cannabidiol products to the people in Mexico,” the company’s website states. “HempMeds® Mexico was the first company to have a medical cannabis product approved for import into Mexico, a country that is in the process of restructuring their policies regarding cannabis.”

The product is manufactured in San Diego, California and then legally imported to help those in need. The president of the company, Raúl Elizalde, is an advocate because her daughter suffered from a rare seizure condition that also wasn’t receptive to traditional treatments. When her experimentation yielded a lot of dead ends, she decided to come up with her own product instead. She is also founder of the Por Grace Foundation, a group that strives to educate Mexicans about how cannabis can be used as a medicine and the ways in which it helps to save lives.

It’s clear that Mexico still has a long way to go when it comes to legalization and decriminalization. Strict stigmas against drugs and crime make it difficult for recreational or widespread medical use to be accepted in the country. But these government regulated steps are an important hurdle to clear for access to medicine south of the border.
