A few months ago, Denver’s neighboring city of Aurora finally decided to allow recreational dispensaries within city limits. This decision gives residents the option of not having to drive into Denver to get their cannabis. The date that the dispensaries would be allowed to open was October 1st, but no one quite made that cut-off.

However, Euflora was the first dispensary to proudly open the doors on Oct. 13, and Terrapin Care Station from Boulder opened their location on Oct. 15. Sweatleaf, Medicine Man, Starbuds, Colorado Harvest Company, Rocky Road Remedies, Altitude, Lightshade Lab, Good Chemistry, and The Green Solution all also plan to either open dispensaries there in the next few months, or are have obtained recreational licensing.
While Aurora is located right next to Denver, it is technically its own municipality, and the third largest city after Denver and Colorado Springs. It was a long time coming for their approval of recreational cannabis, as Denver opened their first stores in January of 2014. Jamie Perino, Euflora’s owner, expressed excitement about her new business venture in an interview with Colorado Public Radio. “We are making history. The first customer that came through the door was, not only our first customer, but the first customer in Aurora. So that was pretty exciting to have that occur in our location here.”
Chris Woods, owner of Terrapin station, is also optimistic about the new location. “The hours of operation are slightly extended compared to Denver, and we’re right next to Denver,” he told CPR.  He is hopeful that people will come from Denver, as well as the other surrounding counties to frequent the store, and he is confident that it will become a staple to those in Aurora.
With these kind of prospects on the horizon, the future of recreational cannabis in Aurora is looking very bright, even if it was a long time coming.
