Most tech-savvy cannabis users probably saw this great innovation coming, and now it’s finally here – an app that delivers cannabis straight to your door with the swipe of a screen. For the time being, this is only available to medical patients in Washington State, but the developers of the app hope that this can soon become both recreational and nationwide.

The app was developed by two University of Washington students, Josiah Tullis and Megh Vakharia. They pitched the idea officially at a Tech Crunch conference, and were met with much support. A few investors are already interested in latching on to this new and lucrative idea, and drivers from private transportation companies Uber and Lift have already been interviewed to pick up a second job delivering cannabis to medical patients across Washington who need some relief.

Tullis was quoted in Time magazine as stating, “The uncertainties are not in the technology; the technology has already been done before. The uncertainties are in the legality on the business side.” The two hope to keep expanding and eventually also deliver to recreational customers, but for the time being they are satisfied with starting off as a medicinal delivery service.

This is an idea that was bound to catch on sometime, and surely this venture will soon see copycats looking to cash in on the same idea. Because this system has already been successfully utilized to deliver cannabis on the black market in bigger cities, and because apps, personal delivery systems, and convenience are growing in leaps and bounds each year, this is destined to be a success. It would be nice in the future if cannabis delivery was as regular as pizza delivery, but for the time being this will be a very valuable service to patients who have issues with transportation.
