Influential Congressman Headlining a Yes on Proposition 205 Rally

Supporters of Arizona’s Proposition 205, which would legalize recreational cannabis, will hold a pair of rallies today and tomorrow at Arizona State University and the University of Arizona respectively. They will be joined by Rep. Earl Blumenaur, a Congressmen from Oregon who helped usher in his state’s own recreational initiative.

The gatherings will take place over the next two days—full details for the rally can be found below. Blumenaur has been a major player in the move to legalize cannabis, going as far as to appeal to the highest office in the Country.

In an open letter to President Obama, Blumenaur wrote, “I suspect that both your heart and your head tell you ending prohibition is the right thing to do, especially from a civil rights and criminal justice perspective. We’ve undercut respect for the law, wasted law enforcement resources, and more important, wasted lives.”

A similar event took place two weeks ago on the campus of Arizona State University, where former Drug Enforcement Administration agents Michael Capasso and Finn Selander urged students to get out and vote yes on Proposition 205.

“I’m supporting Prop 205 because it will make our community safer,” Capasso said. “Law enforcement has more important things to do than arrest adults for simple marijuana possession. It’s time to end marijuana prohibition and regulate marijuana like alcohol.”

The rallies come on the heels of Arizona billionaire Bruce Halle’s donation of $1 million to fight the initiative.
