In response to the rising demand for “high-quality medical cannabis products for the patients of Mississippi” Cheech and Chong’s Cannabis Company has announced a new strategic partnership with Southern Sky Brands to bring the famous stoner duo’s branded medical cannabis products to the state.

The two companies plan to work with healthcare professionals, regulatory authorities, and local communities to provide high quality care and products to cannabis patients in a legal and safe way. Through the partnership, the team behind Southern Sky Brands will bring their expertise and cannabis cultivation facilities to ensure a steady supply of high-quality products in Mississippi.

“This partnership is all about the patients. We want to ensure that the people of Mississippi have access to safe, effective, and compassionate medical cannabis options,” said Tommy Chong, co-founder of Cheech and Chong’s Cannabis Co. “By combining our knowledge and resources with Southern Sky Brands, we can make a real difference in improving the lives of patients in need.”

“We believe in the power of medical cannabis to provide relief and promote wellness. Through this partnership, we are dedicated to delivering innovative products and patient-centric care to the people of Mississippi. Together, we can break down barriers and reduce stigma surrounding medical cannabis,” added Cheech Marin, co-founder of Cheech and Chong’s Cannabis Co.

Mississippi lawmakers recently approved a bill that made several changes to the state’s Medical Cannabis Act which was passed by legislators in 2022. The new bill limited the amount of public information available about a cannabis business’s citation records and will block the physical address for all cannabis businesses except for dispensaries for safety reasons. The changes outlined in the bill also will attempt to address some of the inconsistencies from the agencies who are in charge of setting up and running the state’s medical cannabis program.

“Unfortunately the Department of Health in their rules and regs probably accepted some things that were not intentioned (sic) by the bill,” said Sen. Kevin Blackwell, a Republican from Southaven and one of the bill’s authors on the floor on March 8. “So we are trying to correct those … and we do so in the bill.”

Mississippi joins the growing list of states the Cheech and Chong Cannabis Company has expanded into. The company recently expanded to Minnesota and sells products in Michigan through a partnership with Nature’s Medicines. Another partnership with Nature’s Medicines saw the creation and sale of two exclusive product lines, Tommy Chong’s and Cheech & Chong’s, in Nature’s Medicines dispensary locations in Arizona and New Mexico.

The comedy duo recently launched a line of hemp-derived delta-9 THC gummies called Cruise Chews that take advantage of the recently enacted 2018 Farm Bill that allows for the use of hemp and hemp-derived cannabinoids in products. Each chew has 3 mg of delta-9 THC, and also 33 mg of CBD to help balance out the THC and mitigate some of the negative side effects some consumers may feel. An advertising campaign for the product has gone viral on Twitter, with many joking about the company having an effect on the social media platform’s ad revenue. The company said they have no plans of slowing down the campaign and have a mission of providing a safe way for consumers to enjoy cannabis.

“We are having a good time with all of the attention, but the real reason we are able to spend so much on Twitter is because customers are repurchasing at an incredible rate,” said Cheech and Chong’s Global Holding Co. President Brandon Harshbarger. “That’s because, to put it simply, Cruise Chews help people. But you don’t have to take my word for it; just look at what our customers are saying.”
