Cheech & Chong Launch Hemp-Derived Delta-9 THC Edibles, Cruise Chews

Cannabis legends Cheech & Chong have been longtime advocates of legalization, and even though there are still a number of states without legal adult-use cannabis, the pair isn’t letting that stop them from sharing the magic THC has to offer.

The duo have launched their new hemp-derived delta-9 THC gummy, Cruise Chews, with the mission of making the benefits of cannabis accessible to a broader range of consumers, all the while promoting safe and responsible consumption, according to a news release.

“The Farm Bill did us a real favor, man,” Tommy Chong said, in reference to the 2018 Farm Bill that allowed for the use of hemp and hemp-derived cannabinoids in products and effectively launched a new market. “With regulated cannabis popping up state by state, we’re able to reach some people. But with federally legal Delta-9 THC from Hemp, we can get Cruise Chews to EVERYONE who needs them across America. So we’re sharing the love, one chew at a time!”

The cannabis duo’s Cruise Chews look to offer a new experience to consumers, with micro-dosed chews fit for a brand new or seasoned consumer. Each chew has 3 mg of delta-9 THC, allowing folks to start slow and gradually work up to a larger dose if needed. Each gummy also has 33 mg of CBD, meant to balance out the THC and dampen some of the more negative effects some consumers may experience, like anxiety or overactive munchies.

The product is meant to help consumers to dip their toes into the cannabis world with a reliable and controlled experience. The chews are meant to be mild and mellow, allowing users to “unlock the potential of CBD and THC” without worrying about potentially overwhelming effects that could come with higher potency or higher dosed products.

“The benefits of cannabis or hemp should be accessible to everyone, and Cruise Chews is our way of breaking down barriers,” Cheech Marin said. “That precise dose of 3 mg THC and 33 mg CBD in each gummy, helps guarantee a fun, relaxing, mellow time. And you don’t end up emptying out your snack cupboard or spend the afternoon wondering why the dog is looking at you like that.”

Cruise Chews are also formulated using 100% naturally occurring CBD and THC from hemp, meaning that the edibles are completely free of synthetic chemicals. The delta-9 in the chews are derived naturally from non-GMO, U.S. grown hemp plants through a gentle extraction process.

Chong said that keeping things natural is important to them, and it’s the reason they don’t plan to touch any new, synthetic cannabinoids like delta-8 THC or HHC.

“Nothing against them, but those all have to be synthesized in a lab,” Chong said. “They don’t grow in nature. We want our products to be as natural and beneficial as the hemp plant itself.”

Each hemp batch is also tested rigorously to guarantee purity and absence of pesticides, heavy metals and other toxins. The chews also undergo a careful filtration process that ensures the preservation of valuable terpenes and phytocannabinoids, all contributing to superior quality and taste.

Cheech & Chong first found success in the 1970s and ‘80s doing stand-up and appearing in movies, with a free love focus and emphasis on their love for weed. The pair have maintained their status as icons within the cannabis scene all these years later, notably attaching their name to cannabis as reform, and the hemp-derived cannabinoid market, transformed the West.

The duo also sell a number of hemp-derived THC seltzers and CBD smokeables with less than 0.3% THC, in addition to an array of cannabis accessories and branded apparel.

Outside of their cannabis company endeavors, the pair is staying busy. While Cheech & Chong have plenty of films together, they announced earlier this year they will soon reunite on screen in a biopic exploring their origins and ultimate influence on comedy and cannabis culture.

“We are excited to show the world how two dudes from completely different backgrounds got together, changed comedy, and made cannabis mainstream!” they said in a joint statement in March 2023.

It’s been decades since the duo first came onto the scene, but with Cruise Chews and their continued prevalence in cannabis and beyond, it’s clear they aren’t slowing down any time soon.
