“May the odds be ever in your favor” this 4/20 holiday season, because customers are coming. For budtenders, the April 20 holiday season is the equivalent of Black Friday. Plan on long lines, great deals and the best sales margins you’ll see all year. You should already know what to expect each year on this holiday.

“You see all kinds of door-buster sales and discounts, half off certain products and strains, and very aggressive marketing by recreational marijuana stores,” Chris Walsh, managing editor of Marijuana Business Daily, told the San Francisco Chronicle. Walsh argued that profit-driven cannabis collectives have lowered the standard. “After all, this is supposed to be a medical product or medicine,” he added. “You don’t see a day where Viagra is half off.” Almost every cannabis collective will be hosting patient appreciation deals and parties each year. According to MBD Analytics, most collectives see up to a 60 percent increase in sales on 4/20.

Unlike in previous years, the thing that’s changed this year is the amount of non-cannabis businesses willing to cater to smokers. Totino’s has caught on already, the company just released its own ad campaign targeting cannabis smokers on 4/20. Presumably, companies such as Ziplock or Visine should see an uptick in sales as well. In tourist-friendly Las Vegas, collectives are planning on targeting out-of-state customers. “4/20 is the premiere cannabis retail holiday in the United States,” Las Vegas Releaf’s Jacob Silverstein said. “There’s really been a pent-up demand, I think, for this across the industry.” Releaf and just about every other cannabis collective in Las Vegas have planned aggressive specials for that special day.

Business will be great today, so plan accordingly. Extend the holiday weekend with Earth Day on Friday. You may have to fight over that last gram of Girl Scout Cookies at your local cannabis collective unless you arrive early.
