The success of the legalization which came about
from Colorado Amendment 64 being approved has led to businesses relocating to Colorado.  The newest of these is a satellite office
for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML), which
formerly only had a branch in Washington D.C.

Businesses that have relocated include Latteno Food
Corp, an edible company which moved from Santa Ana, CA to Colorado Springs in
March, Advanced Cannabis Solutions Inc. and WeedMaps, which also moved from
California.  WeedMaps was
instrumental in helping NORML open their satellite office, which now shares a
building with WeedMaps, The Clinic, a dispensary, and CannLabs, which does
laboratory testing on cannabis.

NORML states its mission as “to move public opinion
sufficiently to legalize the responsible use of marijuana by adults, and to
serve as an advocate for consumers to assure they have access to high quality
marijuana that is safe, convenient and affordable.”  As an organization, NORML has gained attention for creating
the first national pro-cannabis television advertisement, sending a petition to
President Obama requesting he move away from the “War on Drugs,” and for the
organization’s high-profile advisory board, which includes celebrities like
Willie Nelson, Woody Harrelson and Bill Maher.

Although NORML itself is a non-profit organization
and therefore cannot lend support to political candidates, the NORML PAC was
formed by the organization to lend financial and political support to
cannabis-friendly candidates. The
NORML PAC will undoubtedly take a keen interest in the politics of Colorado and
the larger national political landscape and hopes to be able to encourage
candidates in other states to follow Colorado’s example.

Many business owners have been praising the way
Colorado is running its industry, versus regulations and commerce in other
states like California and Washington, citing this as part of the reason for
relocation.  States looking to
legalize as a boon to their economy should follow Colorado’s example and reap
the rewards. NORML follows in the
footsteps of many of businesses, and will doubtless be followed by many more
seeking to capitalize on Colorado’s growing number of cannabis consumers.
