Past CULTURE cover artist Ziggy Marley graces Club Nokia with more than just his humanitarian efforts this December. As a global artist who takes socially conscious causes very seriously (Daddy wouldn’t have it any other way, now would he?), Ziggy’s political aspirations are clearly present and accounted for in his latest solo album, Wild and Free. Just as the title suggests, Marley emphasizes powerful messages—including one calling for legalization that’s embodied in the title track—to government authorities, soothing his wanderlust to be “wild and free” into the ears of those who have followed this five-time Grammy-winning artist through his days with The Melody Makers. Marley reinstates the contours of blues, jazz, reggae, and hip-hop to create a sound that is uniquely his own without sounding like a pedantic rootsman. One love indeed. (Alissa Medina).
