[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]N[/dropcap]othing puts a smile on a face like free cannabis. Cannabis activists in Colorado are high on the holiday spirit and have given away 1,000 free pre-rolls to those that need it most.

Nick Dicenzo is founder of the nonprofit Cannabis Can and is the Good Samaritan that came up with the idea of giving pre-rolls to the homeless. “‘Cannabis can make a difference,’ is kind of what we’re standing for,” Dicenzo said. Cannabis Can was formed to spread awareness in areas where cannabis is legal. Selling cannabis in public is illegal, but gifts to adults 21 and over is completely legal. Dicenzo and his followers passed out 1,000 prerolls to the homeless in downtown Denver. The goal of the stunt? Twas to raise awareness, and eventually money, to provide RV’s, restrooms, and showers for those in need.

Dicenzo pointed out that not all of the homeless he encountered smoke cannabis at all. When he came across people that oppose cannabis, he simply said “Merry Christmas, Happy Cannamas– would you like some rolling papers for tobacco?” Each activist involved could carry a maximum of one ounce in accordance with Colorado’s cannabis laws. “Which makes the logistics of this really tricky, but yeah I have lots of people with one ounce on their person,” he added.

Dicenzo believes that the homeless may be down and out, but hold endless potential.  “A lot of the people we spoke with really were just like, ‘if I had regular access to a shower, and a haircut my life would be so much better – I’d have so much more opportunity’,” said Dicenzo.
