ast year, the cannabis industry experienced plenty of ups and downs. On the upside, legalization has been taken a step further with Oregon, Alaska and Washington D.C., among many other victories, but on the downside there has been an equal balance of resistance. One thing is for sure though: Cannabis has gained much more than it has lost, and it shows not only in the voice of the people, but in the entertainment industry as well. In fact, movies and television shows are thriving with the presence of cannabis. There are little to no protests against comedy films, video games or TV shows that feature the herb for one main reason—it’s rapidly becoming a staple of this generation. Here’s a few of last year’s great cannabis entertainment, spotlighting the herb in show business and beyond!

MOVIE:

KID CANNABIS

This comedy drama features an unlikely candidate for a cannabis kingpin of the Northwest. With the help of a 27-year-old friend, Norman completely changes careers and eventually launches a multimillion dollar business of smuggling cannabis into Canada. Eventually he gets caught and is sentenced to a prison term of 12 years, but this film tells a remarkable story of perseverance and determination that’s actually based on a true story.

VIDEO GAME:

GRAND THEFT AUTO V

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA) actually came out in late 2013, but with the arrival of the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and a PC version that will come out this month, GTA has made a major comeback. Check out the vast world of Los Santos and Blaine County, which is loosely based on the landmarks of Los Angeles. Because of this unique setting, Los Santos has a number of medical cannabis dispensaries to keep authentic, and the game includes a few cannabis scenes, as well as a cannabis garden that players can visit. Changes include a first-person mode, new weapons and vehicles and more details damage and weather effects that make the game appear even more beautiful on the big screen.

BROAD CITY

If you haven’t discovered this gem of a show yet, then its high time you get associated with one of the year’s most hilarious comedy series on Comedy Central. Broad City features the lives to two friends in their 20s living in New York. Ilana Wexler is the stereotypical procrastinator who loves cannabis and doesn’t care how other react to her crazy shenanigans, while Abbi Abrams on the other hand hates her current job, is an aspiring artist and of course, indulges in some cannabis treatment (albeit not as much as Ilana). The second season is planned to begin on January 14, 2015.

MUSIC:

ZIGGY MARLEY

The musicians of the Marley family have become the epitome of traditional reggae, and Bob Marley to this day is still one of the most popular faces of cannabis culture. Just as cannabis has grown, so have Marley’s 11 children, especially the famous David “Ziggy” Marley. Ziggy is the lead singer of Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers, which recently released its newest of five albums, Fly Rasta, earlier this year. Aside from his hugely popular solo album, Ziggy also records children’s music from time to time, as his father once did with him and his siblings.
