Vancouver-based Tantalus Labs is working on the finishing touches of its high-tech cannabis cultivation site in British Columbia, Canada. Their unique facility utilizes the best of both indoor and outdoor growing with advanced, sustainable greenhouse technology.

Tantalus Labs was dubbed the “Tesla of Cannabis” by Shafin Diamond, an affluent Canadian angel investor. The company uses sustainable, earth-friendly technology like the company it was nicknamed after. Designing the new facility took a team of scientists, designers and engineers over two years to finalize. Taking cue from the agricultural industry, the team utilizes natural sunlight. Rain water is collected through a water recapture system through its 120,000-square-foot roof. The rain is then filtered and natural fertilizers are added before its fed to the plants. An air system cycles the air every seven minutes, which prevents mold and pest issues. Stale air, unfortunately, is a common problem in indoor grow operations.

The future of cannabis is sungrown, the company argues. “Why is it that this industry was driven indoors? The core reason was stealth,” Dan Sutton, founder and managing director of Tantalus Labs, told Yahoo Finance. “It’s a lot easier to hide plants in basements and in bunkers than to cultivate it in the light, because it is federally illegal.” The company was formed in 2012 and focused on changing the way cannabis is cultivated.

The new concepts of better cultivation practices were lifted from the latest technology coming out of the agricultural industry. “We take those core concepts and we iterate on them so we can provide consistency, not only in product output, but in [meeting] a pharmacological standard,” Sutton added. According to the company’s website, they are the only ones that use “carbon offset cultivation methodology.”

The quality of cannabis product that you can expect from Tantalus Labs should be tantalizing, to say the least. Organic nutrients, natural sunlight, and fresh air flow all affect the taste and quality. Tantalus Labs says its products deliver a “supernatural” quality.
