[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]M[/dropcap]any states are now discussing how to enable cannabis smoking or vaping lounges so that both tourists and locals will have a place to consume. However a recent study from Emerging Insider suggests that many people actually prefer to stay at home when they smoke cannabis.

Westword reports that the study looked at the habits of 600 cannabis consumers. Seventy-eight percent of respondents said they would rather smoke at home, and 70 percent said they would rather use a home delivery service than go to a dispensary. It is worth noting that those who were surveyed were apparently “highly affluent” cannabis consumers.

While many could be quick to chalk this up to the stigma of laziness, it is also likely because of a desire for discrete purchasing. Thirty-two percent of those who responded to the survey said that their families didn’t know they consume cannabis.

It’s important to note that the study did not specifically ask if smokers would visit consumption areas if they were in a strange city with no home to return to. This could be a big factor, as returning home is convenient and affordable, but not a possibility for visiting tourists.

Some areas have already made the leap to approve such lounges. Denver, Colorado had been working on regulations like this since last summer. The state of Nevada is mulling over the idea to provide tourists with a place to safely smoke. And even recently on March 21, San Francisco, California allowed its first cannabis lounge to open its doors. Many more cities and states are likely to follow suit, especially the areas that see a high amount of traffic from tourists.

Despite this survey, many cities are excited for public consumption to come their way, and it is sure to be a game-changer for the industry, especially for out-of-town cannabis enthusiasts.
