CNBC’S “The Profit in Marijuana Country” will premiere on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 1 p.m. and 1 a.m. EST on CNBC. With California’s recreational sales beginning on New Year’s Day, the time is right to focus on the California market.

The show follows “The Profit”’s Marcus Lemonis as he explores rural farmers, beginning in The Emerald Triangle, which includes Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity Counties.

It will explore the tight-knit communities in Northern California that have been cultivating cannabis for generations. The people in those communities are in for a ride when regulated recreational sales begin.

“Lemonis profiles the farmers and entrepreneurs of Humboldt County, many of whom are speaking out for the first time: A Philadelphia transplant who’s now one of the largest growers in the county; a farmer who spent eight years in prison on federal marijuana charges, only to go back into the business, this time legally; and a couple in their seventies who spent years fearing the law as they helped establish Humboldt’s reputation as the Napa Valley of pot,” CNBC spokesperson stated in an email. “Lemonis also rides along with the county sheriff who is doing battle not only with foreign drug cartels, but also thousands of farmers who continue to operate illegally in order to avoid paying the steep taxes that come with a legal permit.”

California is expected to become the largest cannabis market in America, and many viewers are at the edge of their seats in anticipation.

The show was originally scheduled to air on November 14. “The Profit” has featured California cannabis communities including Desert Hot Springs and Orange County. The show helps educate everyday Americans on what they can expect to happen in the lucrative cannabis industry.
