On Monday, Jodie Emery, the wife of Marc “Prince of Pot” Emery, returned to her Vancouver home after being released from police custody. Jodie spent two nights in custody for her alleged involvement in a range of cannabis-related charges and a raid on the premises of various Cannabis Culture locations. Marc and Jodie Emery’s brand, Cannabis Culture, has been around since the ‘90s. She has expanded and helped develop the brand since 2004. It’s since expanded to include retail cannabis storefronts. Despite the setback, Jodie Emery is determined to be resilient in her advocacy of cannabis.

Canadian authorities recently raided seven Cannabis Culture locations in Toronto, Vancouver and Hamilton and arrested the Emerys en route to a cannabis expo in Spain. “I will fight this, I will not stop being an activist. You know, I was too busy with work to be an activist, and now, well, take away the business, and you’ve made a monster out of me,” Emery told the Canadian press. The Emerys are being accused of trafficking, among other potentially serious charges. “There are many other people supplying cannabis in much larger amounts. But for us, everybody knows, it’s a very political persecution,” she added. “I’m more fired up than ever.”

Under order of police, Emery is being forced to cut off all ties to Cannabis Culture, which includes removing her name from bank accounts and handing over her directorship of the company to other employees. Court documents indicate that the Emerys alleged trafficking took place when their Toronto cannabis storefront location opened up on May 27, 2016.

Despite the large amount of cannabis retail storefronts across Canada and the city of Vancouver issuing licenses, constant raids have ensued under Prime Minister Trudeau’s rule. Trafficking is quite a hefty charge for running a cannabis storefront chain in a nation where Trudeau promised to legalize cannabis, but Jodie Emery is determined to bounce back.
