rices for recreational cannabis have
dropped an astonishing 40% on average since Washington’s recreational market upstart last July.

Prices for legal cannabis averaged about
$25 per gram last year, but have now dropped to about $15. Industry insiders
appear to believe this is because legal retail shops are now able to obtain
product much more easily than in July.

Advocates and policy makers, however, are
not really sure what is driving prices down in Washington State. The situation
is made even more confusing by the fact that the medical market remains in most
regards, unregulated.  There are far more
medical dispensaries now open than “state legal” recreational shops.  A strange situation indeed.

There appear to be plans in place to build
some sort of consistent infrastructure in regards to pricing and regulating
both medical and recreational cannabis in the state; when and how this conversation
will be effectively put in to place is still unclear. In the meantime, we are
sure Washington state recreational buys are appreciating the price drop and
accessibility. A close ear to the pavement will show how these price
fluctuations will affect the state as 2015 unfolds.
