Pop-up Dispensaries to Open in Montreal

Dispensaries Despite the fact that the concept is illegal, a company’s pop-up cannabis shops have recently opened in Montreal.

According to CBC, an organization called Cannabis Culture, run by Marc Emery and his wife, Jodie, is behind the concept. Marc is known in Canada as “Prince of Pot,” and served five years in prison for selling cannabis illegally.

The company wanted to open pop-up shops in Montreal because Quebec is poised for legalization. However, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has promised to crack down on illegal dispensaries, leaving Cannabis Culture in danger of getting raided.

The shops will sell to anyone over the age of 19 who presents a photo idea while making their purchase.

“All adults should have access to cannabis in an open manner,” Jodie Emery told CBC. “We’ve always pushed the boundaries; we use civil disobedience.”

Marc and Jodie Emery hope that their dispensary can serve as a taste of what is to come if Montreal legalizes and provide a blueprint for legal cannabis. They also wish to show that there is no harm in legal cannabis, and that stores are an added benefit to the community rather than a burden. Both individuals feel that cannabis is a much-needed community asset that will only contribute to the economy and the growth of an area.

“Hopefully we can engage with the local community and authorities to explain why these peaceful businesses should be allowed to operate,” Emery explained to CBC.

Despite the fact that they could get raided and shut down, the Emerys are doing a big thing by providing cannabis for those who need it and showing the community that there is nothing to fear from legalization. Those in the Montreal area should keep an eye out for the brief appearance of these shops.
