“Welcome to the machine!” is the Orwellian hail that greets Earthlings who choose to take a ride on one of the trippiest visual adventures ever seen. Now in its 23rd year of touring, the Pink Floyd two-hour LaserSpectacular features songs from the band’s Dark Side of the Moon album and cuts from their greatest hits list, including “The Wall.” Using state-of-the-art laser technology, graphics and film clips are projected onto a multi-screened theatre in a cacophony of images and sound, and don’t forget that “each image you see begins with a single beam of light!” In order to squeeze the highest number of thrills out of those choreographed lights, of course, you must wear your 3-D prism glasses, which add just another laver of fantastic that might make you really believe you’re attending a live concert with one of the greatest bands of all time. And there’s always an additional way to heighten your experience of the show, and it’s no secret that many folks who enter LaserSpectacular exhibition auditoriums are already in the appropriate mindset to enjoy the otherworldly, Zen-like stimuli of Pink Floyd and fantasy combined. Do you really need one more reason to get your tickets today? (Jane Mast)
