Pineapple Express: not only a 2008 weed action flick that grossed $101 million worldwide, but an actual cannabis strain now available at Northern California Natural Collective. The non-profit in San Jose lives by the motto “by patients, for patients.” The staff grows many strains themselves, and have done a bang-up job with this cut. Ultra-lime green and tropical-looking, yet perfectly cured, it smells sweet and pineapple-ey. The strain’s parentage is thought to be either Trainwreck + Maui Waui or Pineapple Chunk + an unknown ruderalis. (Pineapple Chunk is Pineapple + Cheese). We get all that here: powerfully sweet notes, with a hint of cheese. On the grind, it’s even sweeter with a new sourness—like a Wreck—and an overnote of funk. As an 80-percent sativa, it’s found use among those with depression or chronic pain among other issues, but it isn’t really appropriate for insomnia. James Franco not included with purchase.
