After
four years in a US federal prison, the highly vocal cannabis advocate, Marc
Emery, is free.

His
not so quick stint in the big house came to pass after being arrested and
charged with the crime of distributing cannabis seeds via his (quite lucrative)
online distribution business. While it’s arguably an ideal use of the web, the
United States government in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement
Administration and Emery’s home- country of Canada, thought differently. They
collectively slapped the entrepreneur with a 5 year sentence which he scraped
235 days off of for good behavior.

Emery
is recognized internationally for his countless cannabis promotional tours, 4
day strain judging festival in Vancouver, BC and his pivotal role in the
“Marijuana Party of Canada”— a political party focused on decriminalizing
cannabis. Unfortunately, it was Emery’s business venture that took him through
a detour straight to federal lock up.

Emery spent the majority of his time in Mississippi’s Yazoo City
medium- security prison. After being extradited on May 20, 2010 by the Canadian
Government, he was sentenced in Seattle Washington in September of 2010. His
imprisonment formally ended July 10, 2014 with several weeks of dilly-dallying
and deportation woes to get him back to Canada in one piece.

Emery is now back home with his wife– fellow cannabis advocate
and all around supporter of the substance– Jodie Emery. The two were a picture
perfect pair during the celebratory rally in honor of Emery’s release, held in
Vancouver’s Victoria Square on Aug. 17.

In seemingly typical Marc Emery fashion, there’s no time for rest
when there’s cannabis advocacy to be done. So far, his post- prison plans
include an extensive college tour set to take place in Canada beginning January
of 2015, followed by a 30-city Canadian tour between Sept 10 and Oct. 17, 2015.
We’re very sure this won’t be the last time you see Mr. Emery making headlines.
