It can be pretty depressing when a local band
leaves home to try to find success in other pastures.  However, the people of Seattle can take
solace in the fact that it took Craft Spells returning to their original, rainy
stomping grounds for them to put together the masterpiece that is their recent
release, Nausea. The new record sees
Craft Spells moving far beyond their post-punk foundation into something that
seems more indie-pop than anything else. While the band hints and alludes to
their post-punk roots, the songs on Nausea
seem more bent on ushering in a new phase for the band which includes richer,
fuller sonic architecture replete with brilliant, full piano arrangements and
sounds, and wonderful string flourishes. (Simon Weedn)
