[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]F[/dropcap]ormer boxing champion Mike Tyson broke ground on a 40-acre plot that will house a cannabis resort in California City on Dec. 20, 2017. The Mojave Desert-based resort, called Tyson Ranch, will be operated by Tyson Holistic and feature an amphitheater, an extraction facility, a supply store, an edibles factory and designated areas for “glamping.”

Tyson’s business partners Robert Hickman and Jay Strommen joined the groundbreaking ceremony. California City Mayor Jennifer Wood also attended the ceremony and said that the resort could be a “rebirth” to the city. The crew behind Tyson Holistic is reportedly mostly comprised of veterans, as the ranch will be located a near Edwards Air Force Base.

The resort will dedicate 20 acres of the land for cultivation which “will allow master growers to have maximum control of their environment,” according to The Blast. The cultivation operation would be used for high quality strains rich in THC and CBD. The site will also feature the Tyson Cultivation School.

Tyson also recently trademarked the name “Iron Mike Genetics” for use on the ranch. A preliminary layout of the 40-acre ranch was released. The layout lists several more facilities including the Tyson Hydro Company and the Tyson University Cultivation School.

The 51-year-old heavyweight has never shied away from his love and appreciation for the plant’s healing and recreational effects. Tyson’s “biggest regret,” in his own words, was not smoking cannabis with Tupac Shakur before he died.  “He always wanted me to smoke weed with him, and I never did it, and I wish I did,” Tyson told Billboard. In Tyson’s tell-all memoir, he admitted to consuming cannabis, even before fighting matches. The strain Tyson was named after the power behind Mike Tyson’s punches.

California City could use the tourist revenue factor that Tyson Ranch could bring to the local community, especially at a resort that is branded with the boxing champion’s name.
