[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]P[/dropcap]rofessional soccer player and Olympian Megan Rapinoe will be joining forces with her twin sister Rachael to promote her CBD-infused product line, released by The Mendi Co. Both sisters have played soccer professionally and share a lot of similarities with each other—on and off the soccer field.

Portland, Oregon-based The Mendi Co. sells products like gummies, salves and soft gel capsules that are infused with CBD. One of the best features of Mendi is its vegan options. Rapinoe will serve as board adviser, strategic partner and athlete ambassador.

“I think there is still a lot of stigma around the use of CBD and cannabis in soccer,” Rapinoe said. “There needs to be greater education so athletes can make an informed decision. We are also subject to the USADA testing pool, and fear of a failed test is worrisome for many players.” Rapinoe and the U.S Women’s National Team won the World Cup last July, which thrust the athlete into the spotlight, as she was considered to be the team’s driving force.

Rapinoe will oversee Mendi’s Athlete Ambassador Program, and hopes to use her position to raise awareness of promoting diversity, inclusion, equal pay, equality and justice into the workplace.

Her sister was inspired to launch Mendi after enduring numerous surgeries including anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. At a talk this past August at TechFestNW in Portland, Rachael explained that she wanted a healthier alternative to the opiates she was using to control the pain.

“As a tool, CBD has been integral in Megan’s training and recovery program for the past few years,” Rachael stated in a press release. “She’s seen the massive potential for more people to adopt CBD into their recovery regimens and saw a need to do something about it by partnering with us to make sure we do it right.”
