n response to the recent legalization in D.C., a
group gathered last week at a restaurant in the Adams Morgan neighborhood to
give out free cannabis seeds to anyone who wants to grow. This was the largest
seed giveaway to date in the country.

Video footage of the event shows what appears to be
a very pleasant day in D.C. The footage shows a congregation of people within
the neighborhood, as well as a man with a microphone attracting locals to come
get their legal seeds while explaining the event to the media and the gathered
audience.

Adam Eidinger, Chair of the DC Cannabis Campaign present
explaining the event and its efforts to the media. “D.C. is united about
legalization, it is united about statehood. Our entire city council is united
about it, he stated. “They are just waiting for you all.”

“We’re gathered in Adams Morgan, it’s a beautiful
spring night, and we are sharing seeds,” he stated in the on-camera interview.
“We are sharing cannabis seeds with the whole city. People who have cannabis
seeds to share are coming here and giving them away, and I’m giving some away
too.”

He explains that for the giveaway recipients and the
city, this is all legal—as an individual
may grow up to six cannabis plants and possess up to an ounce of
cannabis. The only catch is nothing can be sold; everything has to change hands
with no money involved. Police stood by and looked on during the giveaway to
ensure that no currency was changing hands.

“If I could buy it, I wouldn’t need the seeds,”
Wendell Meyers, age 53, told the Washington
Post
. “I can’t grow anything. But it’s a weed. I know I’ve already been
able to grow those in my back yard.”

“I’m going to grow as many as the law allows,”
stated D.C. citizen Bryan Sparks in the video. “Between me and my wife, that
will be six.”

This great turnout really shows how much residents
want their legal cannabis, and should be a major clue to D.C. federal officials
that the new legality is birthing positive repercussions.
