As of this month, El Paso County in Colorado finally has recreational cannabis.
On the bright side—recreational cannabis has finally arrived for El
Paso County. On the not-so-bright side, the county is limited to only one
dispensary. Luckily for El Paso County residents, Maggie’s Farm is a very
unique and special dispensary.
Maggie’s Farm has locations in Pueblo and Manitou throughout the
Southern regions of Colorado. They started out as a primarily medical
dispensary, but have now branched out into the recreational field with their
Manitou Springs location.
Maggie’s buds are all outdoor-grown; setting it apart from most of the
hydroponic grows that take place in Colorado. All plants are grown from seeds,
using 100 percent organic soil, and watered with local spring water to
eliminate any impurities.
CULTURE briefly spoke with John
Shwartz of Maggie’s Farm to find out about their recent success in opening a
recreational dispensary, and how they were able to make it happen. “Our being
able to get recreational [dispensary] in El Paso is about a two-year story,” he
laughs—referring to the legal hurdles that took place to make this a reality.
“But it’s worth it when you see the people who come from out-of-state. If you
talk to some of the people standing in line, some of their stories will make
you cry. We’re spoiled here in Colorado. There are still some people who have
to go through so much, and are persecuted for trying to get their medicine.”
So far, Maggie’s Farm has been met with no resistance from the
community; they’ve been bringing in revenue and more tourism to what is already
a tourist town. With a bit of luck and attention towards the positive outcome,
voters will choose in favor of recreational cannabis in El Paso on November 8.
