Famed publisher and First Amendment advocate Larry Flynt is about to board the Pineapple Express. The firm recently announced Mr. Flynt’s $100,000 excursion into the cannabis industry through Pineapple Express, which provides financial consulting and branding for cannabis businesses.

Late last year, Pineapple Express hired Flynt’s daughter, Theresa Flynt, as Vice President of Business Development. The publicly-traded cannabis firm is listed on the OTCPink.

Aside from being one of the world’s most renowned pornographers, Mr. Flynt is a longtime defender of the First Amendment. He has successfully defended several attempts to thwart the rise of Hustler Magazine. Flynt has also waged a personal war throughout the years with Reverend Jerry Falwell—a battle revolving around censorship. In 1978, a botched murder attempt left Flynt paralyzed from the waist down. Flynt yelled “Fuck this court!” at a 1984 libel lawsuit case in the Supreme Court—a moment which was immortalized by Woody Harrelson’s performance in The People vs. Larry Flynt. Flynt’s empire now includes the Hustler Casino in Gardena, California. He’s invested $100,000 into the Los Angeles-based firm Pineapple Express.

Flynt purchased 100,000 common shares of Pineapple Express at a dollar per share, “Knowing that Mr. Flynt has made an investment in our company provides impetus for everyone at headquarters to surpass expectations and deliver excellent results,” stated Matthew Feinstein, CEO of Pineapple Express. “We look forward to building long-term value for Mr. Flynt as well as our other shareholders.”

Flynt is also outspoken about legalizing cannabis. “Pharmaceutical companies don’t want people turning to pot for pain relief because it means they’ll be spending less on prescription pills. The alcohol industry doesn’t want the competition either,” Flynt said in 2012. “With mounting scientific evidence that pot is safer than alcohol, legal marijuana would clearly put a major dent in the booze business’ profits. Private, for-profit prisons only make money if they’re full, and that means locking up weed growers and pot smokers.”

An ancillary cannabis business might just be a perfect fit for a long-time pornographer.
