Jones Soda Co. has announced its cannabis beverage brand Mary Jones is now available at dispensaries in Washington state.

The THC-infused Mary Jones craft sodas feature the same pure cane sugar recipes used in regular Jones Soda’s and adapted for cannabis beverages. The sodas are uniquely packaged and labeled for Washington in 12 and 16-ounce cans infused with 10mg or 100mg of THC, respectively. Flavors available at launch include Root Beer, Berry Lemonade, Green Apple, and Orange & Cream with plans to release new flavors in the future. Mary Jones

The Seattle-based company was among the first mainstream consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies to enter the cannabis space with the company revealing its plans to enter the cannabis space in 2021.

“Washington is our home state. We have a deep connection to the community and market,” said David Knight, CEO of Jones Soda. “It has been a top priority to bring Mary Jones here and meet the local demand for our cannabis products. Our strong strategic partnerships with CompCanna, their best-in-class emulsion, and Dogtown Pioneers are a perfect fit for what we want to accomplish.”

The Mary Jones product line has been a success and is available in over 275 dispensaries in California since its initial launch in the state in 2022, with additional expansions into Michigan and Nevada in 2023. Manufacturing and distribution in Michigan and Nevada will be handled by Maxxx Labs, a cannabis manufacturing and distribution company that specializes in beverages. Mary Jones recently launched two new flavors in the California market, MF Grape and Cola, with plans to expand the new flavors into other states with legal recreational cannabis markets.

“This collaboration presents a unique opportunity to combine our expertise in cannabis manufacturing with Jones Soda’s well-known creativity in beverage development,” said Paul Schmitz, CEO of Core Investment Group, the parent company of Maxxx Labs. “We will be bringing canna consumers in Michigan and Nevada new products that I fully expect to fly off the shelves and continue building Mary Jones into a leading brand in the space.”

Jones Soda Co. was recently awarded Best Cannabis Soda and won two gold medals in California’s 2023 High Spirits Awards, with the three accolades being the most in the Soda category. Mary Jones THC-infused 10mg Berry Lemonade was named Best Cannabis Soda and was awarded gold medal honors, and Mary Jones 100mg THC-infused Root Beer was also awarded a gold medal.

The company announced a crossover flavor release in July 2023 with the release of a Hatch Chile and Lime flavor for both the Jones Soda and Mary Jones products lines, the first time the company released a product for both brands.

“Jones was the first mainstream non-alcohol consumer brand to crossover into the cannabis market with Mary Jones in 2022,” said Bohb Blair, President Emerging Brands at Jones. “We’re blazing the trail again with jointly releasing a special edition flavor across both markets with our new Hatch Chile and Lime sodas.”

In an effort to create a safe and consumer-friendly hemp beverage, over 50 beverage brands, cannabinoid producers, testing and manufacturing facilities have joined together to create the Hemp Beverage Alliance, calling for the standardization and regulation of the industry. The Alliance envisions a future where hemp and cannabis beverages are treated similar to how different alcoholic drinks are available in different settings, with low-dose, hemp-derived THC beverages available in conventional retailers and higher-dose THC products available in dispensaries.

“Adult consumers are demanding better options to alcohol. They want drinks that are fun, safe, and more easily accessible. We believe low-dose hemp beverages have a place on shelves in conventional retail establishments, subject to similar age restrictions and taxation as alcohol,” said Knight.
