Free CannabisWhether you are excited or filled with concern, Donald Trump is now the President of the United States of America. One group Washington D.C. was looking to promote the cannabis cause and spread some joy at the same time.

The D.C. Cannabis Coalition had planned on passing out 4,200 joints today, with the intention of having a mass “smoke-in” four minutes and 20 seconds into President Trump’s inauguration speech. The event, called #Trump420, is aimed at legalizing cannabis in all 50 states.

The group was diligent in checking identification of anyone requesting a joint, and made sure to warn everyone present that even though “gifting” cannabis is legal, it is still illegal to smoke cannabis on government land, which would include the National Mall where the inauguration took place.

Other non-cannabis related protests also took place in Washington D.C. The “DeploraBall” was held outside the National Press Club on Thursday Night as well as protests at Union Station on inauguration morning.

Many advocates are concerned that the new president will halt, or even worse, reverse the progress the cannabis movement has made under Obama’s watch.
