Fran Drescher Gets Real about Medical Cannabis
[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]F[/dropcap]ran Drescher recently spoke out on behalf of the virtues of medical cannabis at the Cannabis Science Conference which took place last week in Portland, Oregon. As a sitcom sensation, and perhaps one of the most famous voices in Hollywood, Drescher serves as an unexpected but welcomed pillar of support for the cannabis industry.
Through her organization, Cancer Schmancer, Drescher focused a lot of her time on alternative holistic practices including medical cannabis. Forbes reported on Drescher’s recent keynote speech that got personal for the seasoned actress.
Drescher admitted that she has a lot more to learn about what the plant can offer. “There’s so much that we don’t know, and that’s true with cannabis,” Drescher told Forbes.
Medical cannabis helped Drescher overcome uterine cancer and rebound in good health. Additionally, Drescher’s father turned to medical cannabis after seeking advice from his neurologist. “He went from having that expressionless look that Parkinson’s patients often get where it’s kind of a dull life, to a positive reaction within seconds upon using cannabis,” Drescher said. “His whole face became animated, his voice became strong, his eyes opened up, and my dad was back to being himself.”
Those are some of the reasons why Drescher is now backing medical cannabis 100 percent. And she’s not convinced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration knows what’s best for the people of America.
The Nanny star is all about overcoming adversity. In her past, Drescher has survived uterine cancer, rape and a former husband coming out as gay, which is why she wrote in her bestselling book Cancer Schmancer, “My whole life has been about changing negatives into positives.”
