[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]F[/dropcap]ormer Fox 2 Anchor Anqunette Jamison Sarfoh announced on Nov. 5 that she is opening BotaniQ, a medical cannabis provisioning center in Corktown, Detroit, Michigan. The provisioning center opened doors for the first day of sales on Election Day.

On television, Sarfoh is simply known by her fans as Q, hence the provisioning center name. Q served as a morning anchor on Fox 2. Sarfoh was forced to leave the journalism industry two years ago due to increasing multiple sclerosis symptoms.

“The third time my husband took me to the hospital, that’s when he suggested I try cannabis, and I was amazed. I took two puffs and my nausea disappeared, my headaches disappeared,” Sarfoh told Fox 2. “Over the course of several months and in addition to changing my diet, I was able to discontinue the use of all nine medications. Cannabis is my only medication, and I use it daily.”

Sarfoh will operate the provisioning center along with her husband Richard. Together they will make an effort to hire medical cannabis patients as budtenders to add a level of authenticity to the site and to make patrons feel more comfortable.

“There are lots of people who are just like us, who want to show Michigan and the country that first, this is not a product to be demonized, and second, we are responsible business owners who want to be an asset to our communities,” she said.

The move follows Charlo Greene, who quit her job as an anchor for KTVA in Alaska in 2014. Greene quit as she was reporting a story on Alaska Cannabis Club, a company that she owned herself.

Although cannabis is still regarded as controversial in some areas, news anchors and other public figures seem to be more willing to be vocal about it.
