Florida Health Department Issues More Medical Cannabis Licenses

Florida’s Department  of Health just issued more licenses for potential medical cannabis treatment centers.

According to the Associated Press, there will now be two more treatment centers allowed in Florida. Spokeswoman Mara Gambinieri stated last week that Plants of Ruskin and 3 Boys Farm, two new dispensaries, just received letters of approval and will be operating in the state once all treatment centers are open for business.

“This organic product is not available from other producers,” Robert Tornello of 3 Boys Farm in a press release, according to the Sun Sentinel. “Our team members’ experience and credentials, coupled with their deep knowledge of, and passion for, cannabinoid science, will bring the proven medical benefits of this wonderful plant to those who need it most.”

Both of these nurseries are based in Ruskin, and won an administrative challenge that they filed back in May in order to become legal operators. A judge initially ruled that they would be ineligible to open due the fact that they changed owners. Now, it appears this is not a criteria that can disqualify interested shops.

This will give Florida a total of 17 treatment centers throughout the state. The Florida Legislature has decided they will grant approval for 10 new licenses by the end of the year, as a way to implement the rules put into place by the state’s medical cannabis constitutional amendment. All of the licenses should be granted by October 3, at which time all 17 will be approved.

Although Colorado has been one of the slowest states to get on board with medical cannabis, by the time 2018 rolls around they will have a modest yet strong foundation in place for a medical program.
