Film Trailer Shows Camaraderie in Controversial Cannabis Study

Published

on

Almost five decades ago, a wild experiment was underway to uncover the effects of cannabis on 20 women. The study subjects lived in a Toronto, Canada hospital for 98 days, with nurses testing their brains, blood, hearts, kidneys, livers and urine. What were the results of how cannabis impacted half of these women, who were smoking it daily?

This is the story of THE MARIJUANA CONSPIRACY, which took place in the early ’70s, and it shows the trials and triumphs of a group of five women in the study as they overcome adversity at the hands of the government. This movie screams all things women empowerment, as it showcases the power of friendship, perseverance and strength of these five, incredible women.

What’s most radical about this film is the fact that it is inspired by a true story that was experienced by one of the film’s characters, the real-life Doreen Brown. Years following the end of the study, Doreen shared her personal experience, which sparked the Toronto Star to investigate the results found in the experiment, which to this day remain unknown.

In the film’s trailer, viewers are given a glimpse into the camaraderie the women found in one another when the cannabis-consuming group was faring better than the women who were not consuming cannabis. When the study’s results were not faring well for the agenda behind those who paid for the study, the THC level given to the smoking group of women had increased. This hardship caused the women to bind together, as all they had was each other.

As the only known, all-female study like this, it’s possible the findings would be groundbreaking. However, for some bizarre reason, the results and the people who conducted the study seemed as though they disappeared following the women’s release.

THE MARIJUANA CONSPIRACY will be released by Samuel Goldwyn Films on our favorite holiday, April 20, 2021, both on demand and digitally. It was written and directed by Craig Pryce, and the five leading characters are Julia Sarah Stone, Morgan Kohan, Brittany Bristow, Tymika Tafari and Kyla Young.
