n case you missed it, comedian and host Drew Carey is an
outspoken advocate for cannabis. He’s spoken in support of cannabis on several
occasions and has now publically come out as a critic for the new bill being
proposed in Ohio.

According to the Cincinnati
Sun Times
,
Carey is dubious about the direction Ohio is trying to take
with this new legislation.

“I’m not sure I like ResponsibleOhio’s plan for legalizing
pot in Ohio,” he tweeted on March 17. “Sounds like they’re creating their own
monopoly like the casinos did.”

For those who aren’t familiar, this new proposal that the
group Responsible Ohio is proposing would legalize cannabis, but would restrict
the amount of allowable grow investors to ten. Carey seems to be concerned that
this would keep small business owners from starting up legal cannabis
operations, which is one factor that can sway the group’s appeal to Ohio in
either direction.

Carey has come out before as a strong advocate for cannabis
legalization, and did a video interview in 2007 for Reason TV where he strongly spoke out against the federal war on drugs and
in favor of medical cannabis. We know Carey is in favor of reform, but will the
state of Ohio  land on a policy that will
allow that necessary reform to thrive and
be fair for small business owners? Time
will tell.
