Here at CULTURE, we prefer our truffles to be more like Chunk’s shuffle and less like that aromatic oil that trendy restaurants want to put on everything. Fortunately, Dixie Elixirs has come out with a delicious chocolate treat—and not the stuff that smells like perfume for garlic. While you may know the folks at Dixie for their medicated beverages, they have an impressive line of other products ranging from edibles to capsules to topicals. Taking home 2nd Place in the edibles category at the recent Cannabis Cup is no easy feat, as competition is fierce and potency is king. At 300mg of proprietary sativa THC extract per package, only patients with serious illnesses should consider eating even half of a truffle. Too bad. You’ll want way more than that. The texture is silky and decadent, but they almost have a homemade feel to them as well, showing the love that went in them. While a cannabis flavor is present, it’s also clean and not too hash-like to be distracting. For the extreme potency advertised, we expected that uncomfortable feeling that only an edible can give after eating half on the first dose. Mark us as pleasantly surprised when we not only felt sharp and in great spirits, but not the least bit awkward or paranoid. It’s a rare balance to strike, and Dixie Elixir Truffles have done it with style.
