The Costa Mesa
City Clerk certified a medical cannabis initiative last month after receiving
9,565 verified signatures (out of 11,105). The signatures were gathered by the
ARRO Initiative, otherwise known as the “Act to Restrict and Regulate the
Operation of Medical Marijuana Business,” according to the Daily Pilot.

An issued
referendum required that 7,385 signatures be collected from Costa Mesa citizens
in order to qualify for the upcoming ballot this month. On November 19, the
Council will review the proposal and has the option to either adopt the law or
work to call for a special election next year.

Of course, no one
is more overjoyed than ARRO author Randall Longwith, by this news, “We’re
excited to give the residents of Costa Mesa the opportunity to vote on
dignified access to medical cannabis,” stated Longwith.

Longwith, along
with other organizers, estimate that the allowed collectives would reel in $1
million in tax revenue for Costa Mesa, as well as allow the seriously ill
patients in the area to have access to much needed medicine.

Another proposal
fronted by Attorney David R. Welch, which requires 10,905 signatures, would
also aim to improve the local cannabis community by applying regulations
regarding collectives being 1,000 feet away from each other, and could also
allow more than four collectives.
