[dropcap class=”kp-dropcap”]O[/dropcap]n Wednesday, Charlize Theron revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live! the true extent of her long history of consuming cannabis. Theron told Kimmel that she enjoyed “a good solid eight years on the marijuana” and that she enjoys consuming cannabis-infused edibles with a little help from her mother.

The Academy Award, Golden Globe, and Primetime Emmy Award-winning actress co-stars in Gringo, a new cannabis-centric film, which premieres on Friday, March 9.

Theron opened up about her new film and about her history with cannabis on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

“I’m always willing to try anything,” Theron admitted. “I mean, you’ve got one life to live. Why not?”

Notably, Theron explained that her mother, Gerda Maritz, is also a fan of cannabis. “Last week she showed up at my house, literally drove in her little tennis outfit and brought me a little container and just left it on my kitchen table,” Theron said. “She was like, ‘So I got some blueberry-covered chocolate ones, but if you want it faster-acting, you should go for the mints. Those you suck, and it works faster.’ “

It’s not Theron’s first dance with cannabis either, after she divulged her past habits. “My 20s, I was a wake-and-baker and then one day I just couldn’t do it anymore,” she told Howard Stern last year. “I had the best 20s ever because I did everything I wanted to do.”

Theron had assumed that her mother scored the cannabis from some of her tennis partners, she explained, but learned that Maritz purchased the cannabis at a recreational store, all by herself.

Theron’s outstanding performances in films like The Devil’s Advocate, The Italian Job and Monster have solidified her position in the entertainment world. The South African-born actress, and with the open support from mother, are helping to bring cannabis into the mainstream. Theron is a well-seasoned cannaseur—both on and off the screen.
