We are in the era of the emoji. Those cute caricatures have changed the way we communicate with one another; there’s even an emoji movie coming out this summer. Now one collective has created an app to bring the popular response stickers to the cannabis world.

A new app called Bloommoji launched on Monday, which features cannabis friendly emojis like marijuana leaves, dabbing sticks, blunts, jays, clocks that read 4:20, and so much more. Bloommoji is the brain child of the Bloom Room collective and the marketing company Media Labs, both from Bernal Heights near San Francisco. The 32 emojis included in the app even feature iconic Bay Area imagery like the Golden Gate Bridge shrouded in a cloud of smoke.

“Pictures are worth a thousand texts,” said Stephen Rechif, founder of Bloom Room. “And the cannabis culture is done being muzzled.”

Emojis were originally created by Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit tech company, and they have exploded with the popularization of text messaging in the last 10 years. Because of their mass appeal, they have, for the most part strayed away from anything controversial or taboo, although they did release a middle finger emoji last year. However, fans of cannabis quickly began re-purposing some emojis for their needs. Things like the “okay hand” emoji has become synonymous with passing a joint, and the “cloud of smoke” emoji is used to imply you are consuming cannabis.

Currently Bloommoji is only available on iOS devices, sorry Android users, and costs 99-cents. Bloommoji only works in iMessage, texts from one iOS device to another, as of right now, so you will not be able to insert them into emails, tweets or Facebook posts.

Bloom Room does plan to use the emojis to offer discounts at their collective, however users can earn rewards like a free pre-rolled joint or discounts on products sold at the collective.
