annabis enthusiasts have been daydreaming about it for
years: a brand of legal cannabis distributed nationwide, with Bob Marley’s face
on the packaging. Well, in light of recent acceptance, it’s finally happening. Bob
Marely’s branding has agreed to be the face of a corporate cannabis company.

The Marley family has already attached his name to products
such as Marley Coffee and countless other memorabilia, such as audio headphones
and clothing. Now, they are also going to be endorsing a line of products
called Marley Natural which, in addition to cannabis buds, oils and
concentrates, will include infused creams, vaporizers and other related
products.

The packaging for these products will undoubtedly look sleek
and sophisticated, much like the items the brand is already associated with.
The marketing will be more similar to Starbucks or other aesthetically pleasing
advertising than to the typical branding of cannabis products. This will
undoubtedly further add to the credibility of the plant, and lead to new
enthusiasts, backers, and investors.

“This is what the end of prohibition looks like,” Brendan
Kennedy, CEO of the company that owns Marley Natural, Privateer Holdings, was
quoted as saying to NBC News. “Bob
Marley started to push for legalization more than 50 years ago. We’re going to
help him finish it.”

“It just seems natural that Daddy should be part of this
conversation,” Cedella Marley, Bob’s daughter, stated in her interview. “As
Daddy would say, ‘make way for the positive day.’”

While some may question if Bob Marley would support this blatant
capitalization of the healing herb, it is a bit too late in the game for that
argument. His name is already attached to plenty of products, and with safe,
fair, and legal acceptance of cannabis comes the inevitable profit margins and
cashing in. Still, even for the staunchest rejecters of consumer society, this
is a far cry better than a society where the plant is criminalized.
