With cities across the country clamoring for Amazon’s second headquarters, one would assume the electronic commerce giant could do no wrong. An unsuspecting Florida couple found out how false that assumption could be.

The Orlando-based couple, who wish to remain anonymous due to obvious safety concerns, ordered four empty 27-gallon storage bins last month, that they planned to use for storing clothing. Instead they were sent bins filled with 65 pounds of cannabis.

“They were extremely heavy, heavier than you would think from ordering four empty bins,” the anonymous Amazon customers said in a statement for WFTV.

The package was shipped from a Massachusetts-based Amazon warehouse facility (cannabis is recreationally legal in Massachusetts) before arriving in Florida where the drug is still illegal. Anyone possessing upwards of 20 grams of cannabis in Florida can be charged with a felony.

Possessing upwards of 25 pounds is also a felony and can result in a mandatory sentence of three years and up to 15 years. A maximum fine of $25,000 can also be extended.

Upon discovering the illegal package, the couple contacted local police who subsequently seized the cannabis and launched an investigation. Despite police involvement the couple remained hesitant to stay in their home.

“We were still pretty fearful our home would be broken into, and we didn’t sleep there for a few days,” the anonymous customers said in a statement for WFTV.

According to WFTV, the couple claims they sought an explanation and apology from the online retailer, but after a month of email exchanges were unable to speak with a supervisor. The customers said they eventually received a $150 gift card from the company and an email stating: “I am unable to do anything else at this time.”

Orlando police are still investigating the case and have been unable to place any arrests.
