2 Chainz Reveals Cannabis Habits on Strain Preferences, Daily Consumption, and More

It’s no secret that 2 Chainz is a frequent cannabis user. Over the last decade, the rapper has moved beyond music, focusing on entrepreneurship, specifically his Atlanta restaurant Esco Restaurant & Tapas, along with his own line of cannabis in collaboration with Gas Cannabis Co.

He’s also the host of Amazon Music Live, a weekly concert series that livestreams after Thursday Night Football. Ahead of the upcoming premiere, 2 Chainz dished about his cannabis preferences and habits with Los Angeles Magazine.

The interview focuses entirely on cannabis, quickly shuffling through a number of cannabis-related topics.

It begins by digging deep, as the rapper and entrepreneur was initially asked about the first time he ever got high. Ironically, 2 Chainz remembered “being scared” and that his heart was beating “really fast,” adding that he went to sleep praying he would wake up.

2 Chainz told the publication that he is “an indica person” and that his favorite way to smoke is with joints. While he previously smoked blunts, “probably Swishers,” he said, the rapper hasn’t smoked tobacco or mixed cannabis with tobacco since approximately 2013. He recalled gearing up for a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, after doing “a bunch of shows and smoking.”

“But I know my voice was trippin’, my everything was trippin’. Once I started smoking without tobacco, everything worked out for me,” he said.

That’s not to say that 2 Chainz has slowed down on his cannabis consumption as a whole, though. Perhaps crowning himself as one of the top-cannabis-smoking rappers in the game (especially after fellow weed-friendly rapper Snoop Dogg shared earlier this year that he was toning down his consumption after becoming a grandfather), 2 Chainz also shared that he smokes “a lot” of cannabis each day, roughly 21 grams.

Further highlighting the sheer amount of cannabis he intakes each day, Los Angeles Magazine asked 2 Chainz how much weed he has on hand when he registers that he’s on the verge of running out, an amount that even many daily consumers could sit on for some time:

“When I think I’m running out of weed? Probably when I’m down to two ounces. Two or three ounces. It’s over with; I’m out then. I’m panicking,” he said.

That’s not to say the rapper is laying back munching on chips and candy when he gets high. Not only did he say that his favorite high activity is “probably work,” but when asked what his favorite munchies are, 2 Chainz said, “Almonds. I like fruit. I enjoy cherries, pineapples. Whatever it is, I like to have healthy options around me. When I do get the munchies, I’m not just eating a whole bunch of sugar.”

The interview ends with 2 Chainz affirming his own cannabis venture, saying that, when it comes to hip-hop stars in weed, his brand is the one to beat.

“I have the best—that’s what I smoke,” he said. “I don’t think anybody in weed is really selling weed. I don’t know if everybody sees eye-to-eye on it, when it comes to if it’s strong, its taste, or it looks a certain way. But I know for a fact I ain’t never let nobody down.”

2 Chainz has been a vocal advocate for cannabis since the start. With a number of cannabis charges under his belt, even as an established rapper in the early 2010s, the fight is personal.

By 2018, he entered the legal cannabis market, launching his debut weed brand Gas Cannabis Co., whose name stands for “Good Ass Shit.” His partner, Green Street Agency, has seen deals with Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill and The Game, and offers three flower strains: 87 Octane, 89 Octane and 93 Octane.

The Amazon Music Live with 2 Chainz series returns on Sept. 21, with a performance from Ed Sheeran.
