Recently, rap icon 2 Chainz appeared on Nancy Grace’s talk
show to defend the position of legal cannabis. Grace has long been known as a
conservative rights advocate and outspoken journalist, and 2 Chainz is a celebrated
cannabis enthusiast from the rap community.

For the most part, 2 Chainz held his own throughout the
interview and made a strong case for the industry. Grace tried her usual
tactics of emotional argument, putting on images of parents getting their young
children to smoke cannabis, and other examples of neglectful parenthood. 2
Chainz managed to back up all his points clearly throughout the discussion,
seeming intelligent and moderate.

One of the big arguments Grace tried to make was that those
who have children and are not as rich as 2 Chainz will not have the resources
to be as responsible as he, and therefore their children will end up being
exposed to drugs. 2 Chainz handled this very well, arguing that everyone should
be responsible for their own home and family, regardless of their income or
profession. “You can’t use these particular stories to define everyone who uses
[cannabis],” he said. “You don’t have to be a genius; you don’t have to
graduate from school. You don’t have to be a successful artist or entertainer
to know that giving any child drugs is wrong.” However, he pinpointed that a
person who is of a mature age and able to make critical life decisions for
themselves—unlike a 2 year old who was shown apparently encouraged to smoke
cannabis by their mother— should not fear cannabis as a substance nor should
the current stigma pertaining to the substance be frivolously continued.

Grace also tried to argue that 2 Chainz was not one to talk
because of his drug selling past and the way he portrays cannabis in his songs
and videos, and that not everyone is responsible enough to be able to buy
cannabis at the store. He claimed that these things would not be issues or
criminalized if legalization took place. He also argues that alcohol plays a
big role in a lot of the horror stories surrounding cannabis users. “From the
story I just heard you talk about, they had alcohol included, which we all know
causes you to black out, forget things and have memory loss,” he stated. “They
also dealt with irresponsible people. I don’t think you could put an umbrella
on the whole community off these few incidents that you just named.”

All in all 2 Chainz proved that you don’t have to be a PHD
or be an expert to make logical arguments about cannabis. You just need to be a
clear-headed and insightful individual who realizes the devastating issues that
come with prohibition.
