Name: Paula Noel
Macfie
Age: 44
Condition/illness: Multiple
Sclerosis, depression and anxiety
Using medical
cannabis since: 1987
Why did you start
using medical cannabis?
When I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001, during my
days of discomfort from nerve pain, numbing and facial neuralgia, I began
trying out edibles and oils. They are now my preferred method. Edibles allow
for my needs to be met, while still being present and supportive to my family.
Did you try other
methods or treatments before cannabis?
As a teen and young adult, I utilized massage, yoga, flotation
tanks, acupuncture, shiatsu, chiropractic and traditional healing methods. When
I was diagnosed with MS, I took the holistic and nutritional approach after
meeting Dr. Swank and studying his vast library of articles on healing MS with
nutrition. I was also trained in graduate school by tribal and traditional
elders and healers, so my approach to this condition was not well met in the neurology
clinics. I am in the 1 percent of people who have MS and haven’t treated the
disease with pharmaceutical drugs.
What’s the most
important issue or problem facing medical cannabis patients?
Misinformation. Prior to steroid drugs, MS was treated as a vascular
condition with nutritional protocols. MS sufferers need better access (and
support) to considering cannabis as medicine for multiple sclerosis—especially
for the depression, nerve pain, fatigue and inflammation that accompany it.
What do you say
to folks who are skeptical about cannabis as a medicine?

Skeptical folks, what I’d like really like to do is take my
pointer finger and push on your Third Eye just hard enough, while
simultaneously saying “Wake Up!” and have you instantly raise your
consciousness to a better level of awareness on cannabis as medicine.
